SOS - Could you be a village champion?
Village SOS is a major new initiative from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and the BBC, who are searching for six UK villages with a great business idea and six enterprising individuals to act as ‘Village Champions’ and help them achieve their ambitions.
Together they will create a brand new venture that will bring new life and energy to the village with funding of between £100,000 and £400,000 from BIG.
The journey of the six successful villages and their Village Champions will be filmed for a major prime time BBC One series in winter 2010/11 and backed by a BBC Learning campaign.
The feel good series will be presented by Sarah Willingham who grew famed Indian catering chain The Bombay Bicycle Club into a hugely lucrative catering business. You may also recognise her from the BBC series The Restaurant.
What sort of Village Champions are we looking for?
The villages who put out an SOS will be looking for a committed dynamic Village Champion who can help them achieve lasting change in their community. We are trawling the country for individuals who have a successful track record in business. The six successful applicants will have the drive, flair and expertise to launch a brilliant new village business and want to live and work for a year in a small rural village.

You may recall Tracy De Gietelink’s posting back in March?
http://readytostart.rowan.tincan.co.uk/?p=415
Well she’s on the road again, this time in staring in the Roundhouse Theatre, Dover Discovery Centre, Dover on Friday 24th July, at 10am, continuing her one-woman show of information, advice and humour.
In her own words:
This Health & Safety issue is relevant to you, your family, your colleagues and your friends.
With respect, for your information and wellbeing,
1 in 12 people worldwide has hepatitis B or C… I am number 12. Luckily for all those people in my work, social and family circle, , because I know that I carry the Hepatitis C virus … they are safe. (more…)
